So the new Metro dashboard has been rolled out to all 35 million + users on the Xbox network. What do you think of it? I think its a breath of fresh air and is certainly a welcomed change from the old and dated dashboard and with the inclusions of apps such as love film, YouTube and Kinect Voice Control Microsoft have once again shown why you should be using Xbox 360 instead of Playstation 3.There are just a few things that have me a little annoyed and the first major one and the title of the post is the advertisements on every blade or section (whatever you want to call it!).
Like many things in this world you are required to pay for your Xbox Live Gold service which can set you back £40.00 a year. Now, I have always defended this service saying that you pay for what you get in life and I still agree to that saying. But on this occasion I think that Microsoft are out of order in the sense that when you buy a TV you are required to purchase a TV Licence to watch BBC channels as they do not advertise on their channels. This should be the same for Microsoft with the Xbox 360 dashboard I don’t want to see an advertisement on every blade I don’t blame them for posting the odd one on the who thing but this is the sort of thing Playstation should be doing as they are offering a free service.
What I think should happen here is Microsoft should remove the advertisements from the new Metro dashboard or reduce the cost of the live service as they are forcing us to look at adverts when we are paying for a service. The best solution to all would be to force the Silver members to be bombarded with advertisements (internet connection would be required) so they pay for the Gold Service. The space the advertisements are taking up could be a custom spot for your favorite app instead of having to navigate elsewhere for it. Many people I have been specking to have been saying that the new dashboard is just a giant billboard and its a real shame that people are starting to think that about this great looking new update I mean has anyone seen the PSN dashboard? Its terrible, Microsoft and Xbox supply us with great content, support and services I just don’t want these adverts to remain.
