Ok, so this maybe a few days late, but in the run up to Christmas time is of a paramount, however for those who keep their ear to the ground they may have heard of the Spike VGA’s below are the winners and a few opinions on a few of the awards.
Game Of The Year – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I need to make this clear. I am in love with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. As i write this my character (Fenrir Wyrmbane – Dark Elf Level 30 ) is stood in the middle of Riften as world passes by. However i feel that as wonderful a game Skyrim is, this should have been given to Portal 2. As sensational as Skyrim is it didnt feel as far a leap forwards from Oblivion as Portal 2 was. Portal 2 was a game that took a simple addition to the original Orange Box Collection and in my opinion created a true GOTY. That said as you’ll see below, Portal 2 did sensationally well at this years awards
Studio Of The Year – Bethesda Game Studios
Character Of The Year – The Joker, Batman: Arkham City
Videogame Hall Of Fame Award – The Legend Of Zelda
Gamer God Award – Blizzard Entertainment
Xbox 360 Game – Batman: Arkham City
This one shocked me, from reviews i read Batman :Arkham City rated very highly however the general consensus amongst the people wasn’t quite so positive. Some found the game too large with almost too much to find, whilst at the same time others thought the main story was too short and suffered at the hands of the optional extras. Whilst it’s hard to think of other Xbox 360 Games which would rightfully take this title, I believe it should have gone to Gears Of War 3.
PS3 Game – Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Wii Game – The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword
PC Game – Portal 2
Handheld/Mobile Game – Super Mario 3D Land
Shooter – Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
An Elite Sevice which failed for weeks, matching issues and complaints that there wasn’t enough development from the last game, surely there has to be a case this year that Battlefield 3 should have had this title.

RPG – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Multiplayer – Portal 2
Individual Sports Game – Fight Night Champion
Team Sports Game – NBA 2K12
Driving Game – Forza Motorsport 4
Fighting Game – Mortal Kombat

Performance By A Human Male – Stephen Merchant as Wheatley, Portal 2
Performance By A Human Female – Ellen McLain as GLaDOS, Portal 2
Downloadable Game – Bastion
DLC – Peer Review, Portal 2
Most Anticipated Game – Mass Effect 3
This is pretty much a given, a look ahead to the 2012 releases and there is very little of hype on the agenda. That said i am waiting patiently for Mass Effect 3 and ready for it to take over my early Q1 of 2012
Trailer – Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
I loved the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations trailer about as much as i loved the game (a lot in case you hadn’t guessed) that said i don’t understand how a game such as Dead Island did not win this award. Without the trailer for Dead Island it would not have sold anywhere near the number of units it did. Revelations would have sold regardless of trailer but Dead Island was so original that even Planet Of The Apes stole the entire premise (check out youtube folks the comparisons are amazing)
