News: Modern Warfare 3 DLC set for January Release Date

Call of Duty fans won’t have to wait much longer until they can get their hands on the first DLC content available for Modern Warfare 3, in the form of a map pack.

There has been no official announcement yet, but Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling posted a picture of a map to his Twitter account. Bowling said “Exclusive sneak peek at ‘Park’ – some of the first #MW3 DLC hitting Jan 24th for Elite subscribers! More info in Jan!”, and then posted a picture of the map. It shows a park (as you might guess), with the New York skyline in the background, suggesting that you will be fighting in Central Park, NYC.

This correlates with rumours which began to circulate at the beginning of the month, which revealed the names of the maps as Park, Concrete, Overwatch, Italy and Morning Wood.

However, as Bowling said, official details aren’t going to be released until the new year, meaning that for now, it’s alot of guess work. Activision though have spoken, with SM Manager Dan Amrich stating on his blog that there’s “a double-whammy here: Due to a business arrangement from 2010, Xbox 360 gets DLC content ahead of other platforms, and Activision has promised Elite subscribers will get DLC content ahead of the general public. With that in mind, I see five audiences: Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 general public, PS3 Elite, PS3 general public, and PC. I don’t yet know in what order each of those audiences will be served. That could get confusing, but you know I’ll do my best to make it as easy to figure out as possible.”

So Xbox 360 owners, with COD Elite membership, can expect to get Morning Wood (and the other maps) on January 24th 2012. A nice new year present. However, we’ll have to wait until next month to see just when the other factions get their hands on the new DLC. Regardless though, we can’t wait to expand the multiplayer experience of Modern Warfare 3!
